Interestingly, I found that my diet was having a big impact on my cankles. It turned out that not only was I eating too much, but my diet was high in salt and low in essential vitamins, which caused me to gain weight and retain water around my ankles (this was why the skin looked shiny and stretched).

Ok so this part was easy, I'd found that one cankles cure was to lose weight through eating more fruit and veg and less salt. The microwave meals and salty snacks went in the trash and I started seeing an improvement in my cankles within weeks! I also found a great diet plan to help me stick to my new way of eating through recipes and meal plans, which I discuss over at my blog.

The next cure I found was exercise (are you noticing that the cures link together, as exercise is great for weight loss, water retention and building muscle?). Swimming is the best form of exercise for curing cankles as it does not put stress on joints and muscles (it is low impact) and the water pressure helps any fluid retention in your lower legs to disappear. Cycling and rowing are also great forms of mild, low impact exercise, which help your body to get blood pumping round and excess fluids drained.

There are also specific exercises for building muscle in the lower legs. An easy one to do at home is the heel / toe walk. You simply walk from one side of a room to the other on just the heels of your feet, then walk back again on just your tiptoes. Repeat it until you can feel your muscles starting to ache, then rest (putting your feet up also helps to get rid of water retention).

Less salt and exercises you are mentioning should help. but many peoples' problems with water retention in ankles as well as in other body parts are due to other health conditions and mainly due to the medications they have to take. but healthy diet and exercise should always go first before you employ medicinal techniques.

There are several methods that people try to do away with of cankles. Many try to apply calf exercises. These exercises are plan to build up the calf to a point where it originates a visible separation with the ankle. However, this approach does not work very well. Unless something is done to reduce the amount of fat around the ankle, the cankle remains.

Doesn't having cankles suck You can't go to the beach unless you like wearing sweats.Cankles are caused by an excessive amount of fatty adipose tissue around the ankle. This tissue causes the normal demarcation between the calf and the ankle to be erased.

Exercise
