What is the best exercise?

What is the best exercise?
The best exercise is the one that you will do on a regular basis. Walking is considered one of the best choices because it's easy, safe and inexpensive. Brisk walking can burn as many calories as running, but is less likely than running or jogging to cause injuries. Walking also doesn't require any training or special equipment, except for good shoes.

Walking is an aerobic and weight-bearing exercise, so it is good for your heart and helps prevent osteoporosis.

RE: What is the best exercise?
Hi!
I also agree with you that walking is the best exercise.
- One hour of brisk walking at 5 miles per hour, or 12 minutes per mile, burns 530 calories versus 480 from jogging. Surprised? In actuality walkers take more steps and use their arms more often, consequently exerting themselves more then runners. With the proper diet walking can have a serious impact on weight loss.
- Walking one mile in 16 minutes lowers your cholesterol levels the same amount as running a mile in 7- 10 minutes.
- Walking is easier on your joints. A walker's foot lands with only 1.5 times the force of body weight. Running on average puts three times the force on your feet.
- Walking is an equal opportunity form of exercise. Walking does not require athletic ability or a great deal of coordination. Everyone knows how to walk. It is a no-excuse form of exercise.

RE: What is the best exercise?
To maintain fitness and lead a healthy lifestyle, most people should do about 30 minutes of physical exercise five, or more, days a week.
This could be anything from a structured exercise routine, to half an hour of brisk walking, housework, or active gardening, such as mowing the lawn, or raking leaves. The important thing is that it gets you slightly out of breath and makes you feel slightly warmer than usual.
If you are trying to lose weight, you should build up to about 60 minutes of exercise on most (5-6) days of the week. Remember to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet as well.

Exercise intensity

There are three different intensities of exercise; light, moderate, and vigorous (see 'further information' for a definition of each).
It is important to remember that you should eventually be aiming to significantly increase your heart and breathing rates, through vigorous exercise, in order to gain the full range of benefits of regular activity.
However, if you have not exercised in the past (or for some time), before starting an exercise programme, you should visit your GP for a physical check up. You should also build up gradually, and be aware that everyone is different, and what might be easy, or moderate exercise for one person, may be vigorous for another.

You should also see your GP before starting a new exercise programme if:

* you have high blood pressure,
* you have heart disease,
* you have joint problems, or
* you are over 60 years of age and have not exercised for a while.

Also, before beginning an exercise programme, you should check with your GP if you are taking any prescription medication, if you are pregnant, or if you think there may be any other reason why you should not exercise.

Types of exercise

There are many different ways to exercise.
For example, cardiovascular exercises, like dancing, or cycling, help to improve the condition of your heart and lungs. Running and weight training develop strength and endurance, and stretching exercises, like yoga, keep you supple and improve your balance.
Some exercises, like swimming and walking, are low-impact, which means that they do not put stress on your joints.
You can also choose whether to exercise by yourself, or with others. Some people prefer team sports such as football, whereas others prefer to play badminton or squash with a partner, take part in exercise classes, or go it alone at the gym.
It is best to choose a type of exercise that you like doing because you are more likely to continue doing an activity that you enjoy.
You can also vary your activities according to your mood and the weather. Remember that as well as helping you to stay fit and healthy, and lose weight, regular exercise can increase your energy levels, lift your mood, and help you to sleep better.

RE: What is the best exercise?
I agree that the best exercise is one that you enjoy. Swimming is also a great exercise as you are using a lot of your muscles and joints. Another good option is to pick up a sport like tennis or golf. If you love to golf, skip the golf cart and walk the course. Walking a full 18-holes is like walking a mile or two and you can have fun doing it. If you have kids, make it a habit of encouraging them to play sports and practice with them.

RE: What is the best exercise?
I do walking every 6-8 am, i find this time very effective because it helps you start your day fresh and right. also they said that you get some sort of vitamins for skin. i just dont know about that one.Exercise helps us to burn calories and lose weight in two different ways. First, it causes the muscles of the body to do more work. Second, it enlarges our muscle tissue, thus raising our metabolic rate (the amount of calories we burn while resting).

RE: What is the best exercise?
Walking is said to be one of the best exercises for losing weight. The percentage of fat burning is around the 55% however as with all exercises it really depends on the intensity of effort.
